With the launch of its new Yanfeng Technology (YFT) unit on September 4, Yanfeng, a leading global automotive supplier, is integrating its Research & Development (R&D) activities in the areas of interiors, seating, electronics, safety, and exteriors into a single, global unit focused on accelerating the company’s futuristic automotive interiors concept.
The new Yanfeng Technology unit is the next step – an ‘interface’ – towards the further globalisation of the company’s businesses, as it transitions from a supplier of component to a supplier of integrated systems.
“In this way, we can differentiate ourselves,” said Yanfeng’s Francisco Acedo Dominique. “OEMs are looking for suppliers who can supply products, not just technology.”
At last week’s gathering in Stuttgart, Germany, Yanfeng unveiled its new SmartCabin technology platform consisting of six intuitive human-machine interface (HMI) solutions that are seamlessly integrated into different surfaces.
Integrating these solutions into the latest Experience in Motion XiM20 autonomous driving ride-sharing concept that also saw its European debut at the event, Yanfeng demonstrated the various ways in which the passenger experience can be redefined to suit OEMs’ specific requirements and ideas as well as how innovative operating concepts can be implemented in a customisable and sophisticated design.
In contrast to today’s ‘dumb’ surfaces, the new ‘smart’ interior showcased in the XiM20 features a host of sensor-enabled intuitive operating functions.
The concept demonstrates how functional surfaces, health and wellness features and connectivity can be seamlessly integrated into interiors in the future.
“We are using the technology platform with its multiple control interfaces as a basis for discussion about the various implementation options for HMI solutions,” explained Han Hendriks, Chief Technology Officer at Yanfeng Technology.
The XiM20 incorporates technology developed on the basis on insights gained from consumer research, said Tim Shih, Vice President Design and User Experience, Yanfeng Technology. “The insights gleaned from our research defined what impacts consumers’ quality of life and what creates memorable, engaging experiences. With the XiM20, advanced technologies and product innovations complement intuitive design, providing flexibility and comfort for the autonomous rideshare passengers of tomorrow.”
The XiM20 is designed for two different ‘experiences’: seated up front, passengers have a panoramic view of the surroundings, while the more cocoon-like rear offers lounge seating and privacy. The interior offers a host of smart features such as seamlessly integrated temperature, sound, UV cleaning, and navigation systems and Never-Forget Storage, essential in ride-sharing vehicles, consisting of storage spaces and bins that recognise forgotten belongings, alerting passengers with a series of notifications directing them to the stored item.
“With the XiM20, advanced technologies and product innovations complement intuitive design, providing flexibility and comfort for the autonomous rideshare passengers of tomorrow,” Shih concluded.
