Reusable transit packaging specialist Cartonplast (CPL) has continued its recent capital investment programme with an expansion of its service centre at Mysłowice in Poland.
Cartonplast, based at Dietzenbach, Germany, is a leading European operator of a pool system for reusable plastic layer pads (PLPs) used to deliver glass, PET or can packaging containers to fillers in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries.
Earlier this year, CPL announced it was investing to expand and upgrade its service centres in Germany and Portugal. This included the launch of a new centre near it headquarters near Frankfurt, Germany.
Now, the company, whose polypropylene pallet dividers are used in 20 countries, has installed a second PLP washing line at the plant near Katowice, southern Poland. This addition will allow the centre to double its annual pad cleaning capacity by 7 million to 14 million PLPs, the firm said.
"With only one cleaning system for the layer pads in our Polish Service Centre, we have reached the capacity limits for reprocessing the pads," explained Marek Kapusta, Managing Director of Cartonplast Polska.
Apart from meeting growing demand in Europe for its transit pad rental system, CPL believes the expansion will improve the quality of service to its customers. In addition, with an eye to the environment, the company intends to retrofit “state-of-the-art water neutralisation equipment” to the washing system at the 3,400m2 Mysłowice facility.
Its Polish operation, located close to the Polish urban centres of Katowice, Tychy and Mysłowice and near major pan European highway routes, is well placed to serve markets in Poland and Eastern Europe.
Cartonplast has also forecast it will continue to expand its business footprint through development around the world. Earlier this year, it was handling 45 million plastic layer pads with more than 140 million cycles per year managed through 17 service centres around the globe.
The firm said that it expects to broaden its product range as it expands – for example, through the addition of rental of tailor-made plastic pallets, especially for the glass container industry.
Cartonplast already provides PP pallets for the glass industry along with others suitable for the food and beverage product transit. In addition, the firm’s product range includes reusable stack top frames.
