South Korea’s Songwon Industrial Group has announced the unexpected death of the company’s CEO, Maurizio Butti, aged 62, on 7 Sept.
“The entire Songwon family mourns the sudden loss of our CEO. With the organisation since 2006, Maurizio was an inspiring leader, managing the company with humor, integrity and passion,” said Jongho Park, chairman of the board.
Maurizio joined Songwon as the president and CEO of Songwon International AG and member of the Songwon industrial group executive committee in Switzerland in 2006.
He became the group COO in 2011 and was promoted to chief executive officer in March 2016.
As the CEO, Maurizio spearheaded the implementation of all the group’s business and day-to-day operating activities, and oversaw all functions within the organisation from innovation and production to regulatory and EH&S.
Under his leadership, Songwon advanced into new markets as part of its strategy to become a global player.
Maurizio held an MSc in chemical engineering the Polytechnic of Milan, and an MBA from the Bocconi University of Milan.
Jongho Park will serve as acting CEO while the company works on the succession planning.
