Thermoforming tool manufacturer Marbach is targeting flexible and efficient production with the implementation of the principles of ‘quick response manufacturing’ (QRM).
The concept embraces a time-based framework, seeking to reduce lead times while improving quality and efficiency, or, in other words, ‘going slowly and taking caution’ to achieve goals faster, explained Hubert Kittelmann, Marbach sales manager, without giving further details.
“In the past the old approach [of] ‘it is urgent - do it faster’ often led to delays and bottlenecks. The lean and transparent QRM production allows us to manufacture production orders in a targeted manner and with shorter lead times," he went on to add.
In a 9 May statement, the Heilbronn, Germany-based Marbach said it had been working in line with QRM principles for the past nine months and was already reaping the first rewards.
"We started with two lighthouse projects in production and service and can see the advantages and changes here very clearly. Shorter lead times mean more free capital, less occupied space, less shrinkage,” Kittelmann added.
In addition, the new QRM principles put employees under less stress, allowing them to think more clearly, he noted.
