BASF will introduce new technical uses for its mini-bead version of its Infinergy expanded thermoplastic PU at the upcoming K Show.
The K fair will be held from 16-23 October at Messe Dusseldorf in Germany.
Suitable for a broad range of applications where vibration damping is critical, such as compressors, safety footwear and sporting goods (tennis racquets, bicycle seats, etc.), Infinergy offers improved versatility.
The mini-beads are less than half the size of standard Infinergy pellets, with a diameter of between approx. 2.5 and 3.5mm.
The beads are suitable for use where filling behaviour of the standard product reaches its physical limits, particularly for thin-walled products.
Bicycle component manufacturer, Ergon, has been using the mini-beads to produce a range of bicycle saddles.
“The mini beads provide us with completely new options for product development and component design,” said Andreas Krause, head of technical development.
BASF has also introduced a new black Infinergy product. “We are opening up new possibilities for our customers with the black Infinergy,” said Thomas Stuhrenberg, head of marketing for BASF Europe. He added that there is no limit to the colour potential of the product.
In other applications, the processing of particle foams, including those made using Infinergy, required steam to weld the material into components. But the steam can have detrimental effects on the surface finish.
Fox Velution has developed a new, dry technology to avoid this issue. The variotherm process delivers lightweight constructions with tactile surface layers, opening up new options for decorations or functionality.
At the K Show, BASF will be located in Hall 5, stand C21/D21.
