The Leitrim Observer is reporting that members of the Services Industrial Professional and Technical Union (SIPTU) are planning strike action at the Irish plastics packaging supplier Boxmore Plastics, in Ballyconnell, County Cavan.
The strike action is due to take place on 8 May, following what the union members describe as the company’s refusal to deliver a pay increase as recommended by the Labour Court.
The Labour Court is the appeals body which rules on employment rights.
Approval for the action was voted through by SIPTU members in the general operative, maintenance and team leader grades.
According to the report, SIPTU organiser Denis Sheridan said: “Union members voted overwhelmingly in favour of taking strike action due to the company’s failure to pay an outstanding 1% pay increase as recommended by the Labour Court.”
Sheridan said the strike action will start at 8:00am on the planned date. SIPTU representatives remain available to meet with management to resolve the dispute.
