ExxonMobil has completed an expansion of its manufacturing plant in Newport, Wales, doubling the plant’s manufacturing capacity for thermoplastic vulcanisate (TPVs).
The expansion has now raised the company’s total global manufacturing capacity for Santoprene-branded TPVs by 25%, ExxonMobil said 13 May.
Santoprene TPVs are fully vulcanised EPDM rubber in a thermoplastic matrix of polypropylene (PP), offering processability of plastics in diverse applications.
The materials can be extruded, moulded or thermoformed easily, while being resilient, flexible and resistant to heat, fluids and chemicals, according to ExxonMobil.
Considered as a lightweight and sustainable alternative to traditional materials, the TPVs are typically used in industries such as the automotive and consumer products.
ExxonMobil also manufactures Santoprene TPVs in Pensacola, Florida.
