Continental Corp. has opened a company-wide competence centre for 3D printing at its electronics plant in Karben, near Frankfurt.
Operated by development and production service provider Continental Engineering Services, the centre will offer high-precision and efficient production of small quantities of components for internal and external customers, the German company said 22 May.
In addition to additive manufacturing, the “state-of-the-art” 8,000 square metre manufacturing facility also houses high-performance CNC machines, injection moulding and laser welding systems as well as electronics manufacturing for printed circuit board assembly.
“The combination of a variety of environmental testing facilities and small-series manufacturing creates an ideal configuration that enables the right manufacturing technology or combination of technologies to be selected for each task,” Conti explained.
The competence centre in Karben, explained plant manager Torsten Rauch, allows the company to “test technologies, develop processes and procedures and roll out our production worldwide.”
