Lanxess AG is expanding its production capacity for the industrial chemical benzyl alcohol by around 30%, the German speciality chemicals company announced 18 March.
The company is carrying out a two-stage expansion at its production site in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany, and expects to complete the project by the end of the year.
Lanxess has earmarked a “low double-digit million euro sum” for the conversion measure.
In addition, Lanxess' Advanced Industrial Intermediates (AII) business unit is undertaking a series of debottlenecking processes at its production site in Nagda, India, the company said.
"With our two sites in Germany and India and the planned expansions, we are well positioned to meet the growing demand from our customers," said Michael Ertl, head of the benzyl products & inorganic acids business line at AII.
Benzyl alcohol is used in a variety of different applications, for example as a solvent for coatings, colour pastes and construction chemicals. Other applications include adhesives, plastics, textile auxiliaries, fragrances and agricultural chemicals.
