Rapak, part of the DS Smith Plastics, is investing in a new production line for bag-in-box packaging at its production site in Shumen, north eastern Bulgaria.
The investment will add a sixth line at the Bulgarian production plant to increase flexibility and efficiency and reduce lead times at the facility, DS Smith announced 11 March.
Rapak is a manufacturer of bags, fitments and filling machines for bag-in-box packaging and has been manufacturing flexible bags ranging up to 1,400 litres at its Shumen site since 2005.
The company has seen significant growth in Eastern European markets such as beverages, liquid food and chemicals in recent years.
“Demand for bag-in-box packaging in Eastern Europe is rising, and now we are fully prepared to cater to the market needs”, said Ivo Pavlov, Shumen site director.
The new high-speed line can produce bags of any size between 2 and 220L in MetPET, EVOH, polyamide or other materials.
