Gerresheimer AG is growing in Europe with the planned construction of a new manufacturing unit in Skopje, North Macedonia.

The German packaging supplier will be manufacturing plastic systems for both medical and pharmaceutical applications as well as prefillable syringes at the new plant, according to Dietmar Siemssen, chief executive officer of Gerresheimer AG.

“As part of our growth strategy, we require additional manufacturing capacity and are expanding our European production network,” he added.

Gerresheimer will be investing a “mid-double-digit million Euro figure” in the new plant, and expects to start construction on the site in the first half of this year.

The facility is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2020, with production start-up set for the second half that year.

The plant will be part of Gerresheimer’s Plastics & Devices Division where it will fall under the Medical Systems Business Unit.

The unit will be supported by the Gerresheimer competence centre in Wackersdorf, Germany, and its European sister factories in Pfreimd and Buende in Germany as well as Horsovsky Tyn in the Czech Republic.

Gerresheimer said it selected North Macedonia for its “good infrastructure, cost structures, trained personnel and excellent support from the authorities.”
