Extrusion machinery supplier Coperion and its bulk material handling subsidiary Coperion K-Tron will exhibit high-quality extrusion technology for manufacturing powder coatings during this year's European Coatings Show, to be held 19-21 March, in Nuremburg, Germany.
The Stuttgart-based company will be displaying its Coperion ZSK twin screw extruder which is claimed to provide “absolutely homogeneous” distribution of coating components throughout the powder and produce high-quality powder coating.
The ZSK extruder process section features a modular design. It consists of multiple sections of barrels in which the two screws rotate in the same direction.
According to Coperion, the configuration of the barrels and screw elements is individually designed for each powder coating formulation, and can be modified accordingly.
The extruder's design focuses on closed surfaces that are easy to clean. The process section is clad with removable covers, while a separate covering is placed at the product discharge for the screw tips so screws can be changed rapidly.
The company is also exhibiting its upgraded side feeder ZS-B easy, which, when mounted on the process section, functions like a small extruder and, says the company, can even lead material with low bulk density into the extruder process section with process reliability.
According to Coperion, the ZS-B easy can be dismantled “much more quickly” from the ZSK process section compared to its predecessor and its twin screws can be exchanged very easily, a feature that significantly decreases the time required for cleaning the feeder.
The company will also be showcasing its K-Tron T35/S60 quick-change twin screw feeder with the intelligent ActiFlow bulk solid activator, which has been specially designed for applications requiring maximum flexibility in feeding and material changes.
It allows for the removal of the entire feeding module with screws in place for replacement with a second unit.
The intelligent ActiFlow bulk solids activator prevents bridging and rat-holing of cohesive bulk materials in stainless steel hoppers without internal hopper agitation.
With a patented vibration drive and intelligent control technology, the activator keeps bulk material in continuous motion at an optimised frequency and amplitude inside the hopper without exercising mechanical forces upon it.
Coperion will be exhibiting at booth 6-350, Hall 6 at ECS 2019.
