Danish plastics processor Letbæk Plast A/S has set up a production subsidiary business in western Poland which will mould shells for designer furniture.

Letbek Sp. z.o.o., recently established in Komorniki village near the city of Poznań, is scheduled to injection mould seat shells intended for a range of designer chairs in the second quarter of this year.

This project was initiated by Tistrup, Denmark-based Letbæk Plast to enable the firm to take advantage of new business at the heart of Poland which is Europe’s furniture design centre, according to its chief executive officer Michael Bayer Thomsen.

The Polish operation is expected to employ an eventual workforce of around 50, according to the Danish parent company.

Meanwhile, Letbæk Plast, based in Tistrup on Denmark’s Jutland peninsula, is expanding its production capacity in Denmark.

It has announced it will take over Plast-Profilen, a small neighbouring plastic profiles extruder 25kms north on the Jutland peninsula. With just seven employees, Lønborg-based  Plast-Profilen of Lønborg will strengthen Letbæk Plast’s production of small technical plastic profiles, said Thomsen.

The Plast-Profilen business, along with its workforce is due to be transferred to Tistrup following the firm’s formal acquisition on 1 February (Friday). With the merger, the total Letbæk Plast workforce will rise to 47. The value of the takeover deal was not disclosed.

Letbaek Plast specialises in manufacturing window profiles, road traffic sign bases, cable protection systems and injection-moulded components for the construction, agricultural and industrial sectors.

The company, which offers a range of plastics forming processes including extrusion, blown film production and injection moulding, is also a leading user of recycled plastics. Around 60% of its output is moulded from this material.

In 2018, turnover at the company rose by 11% to reach €9.4m and Letbæk Plast expects to achieve double-digit growth this year.
