German compounder Kraiburg TPE will unveil its adhesion-optimised Thermolast M for medical applications at Pharmapack 2019 in Paris, 5-7 Feb.

Developed in collaboration with US chemicals supplier Eastman, the thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) compounds have been tailored to adhere directly to specialised polymers - particularly Eastman’s Tritan copolyester - for medical applications, such as transparent packaging, seals and soft-tip applications.

Other polymers include polypropylene, ABS, ABS/PC, and PET, the Waldkraiburg, Germany-based company added.

The cooperation with Eastman is part of Kraiburg TPE’s 2019 strategy which aims to sharpen focus on medical applications and pharma packaging.

“We are expanding our portfolio for the medical and pharmaceutical markets and… are focusing on developing new materials for innovative products,” said Oliver Kluge, business unit manager medical applications at Kraiburg TPE.

According to Kluge, tests of Thermolast M compounds have shown “excellent peel strength” on various Eastman Tritan copolyester types.

Along with its collaboration with manufacturers of hard thermoplastics, Kraiburg TPE said it had also intensified its “market-driven and customer-oriented support” for the medical sector.

The company now has “a specialised team of experts” to provide customers with advice on all issues relating to materials selection, development of applications and tools.
