Understanding that machine downtime is one of its customers’ worst nightmares, Windmöller & Hölscher has put in place a programme to ensure that even rare and aged parts are supplied within 24 hours.

In April of last year, the company established an express production service ensuring that simple to medium complex machine components that have been manufactured to customer specifications (drawing parts), can be rebuilt and delivered in less than 24 hours.

"Our express service for spare parts works in a similar way to an emergency room: the most important thing is to stabilize the patient, i.e. the machine, and keep it alive. This is how we prevent production shutdowns,” said Jörg Dellbrügge, head of W&H Service Logistics

While Windmöller & Hölscher has 90 percent of all required original spare parts directly available from stock, rare consumables that are not stored in stock can have delivery times of two weeks or longer. The company now has three full-time employees at W&H’s headquarters in Lengerich who produce the necessary parts by order, working to get the parts to the customer a day after receipt of the order.

The service has proved to be extremely popular with customers. Over 200 rush orders have been successfully completed to date.
