Axiom Product Development, a UK specialist in machining and tooling, has invested £160,000 (€178,000) in two Negri Bossi plastic injection moulding machines in a bid to “significantly broaden” its engineering services.

The two new 180- and 90-tonne injection moulding machines will be used by Axiom to prove out its in-house designed tools and offer a “comprehensive” tooling and moulding service, the company said in an 8 Jan statement.

The Chichester-based company said the new machinery will enable it to manufacture “complex plastic components” for its automotive and general industrial customers.  One of the machines will be dedicated to the production of clear plastics.

The investment is part of Axiom’s long-term strategy to grow both its existing tooling and machining business as well as expanding its capabilities into high-tech plastic injection moulding.

To that end, the company has made a number of key new appointments over the past six months, which are designed to strengthen its engineering and design team.

“Following some key new staff appointments and double-digit growth over the past six months, the time is right to expand our specialist engineering skills and capabilities,” said Alan Rendle-Eames, managing director, commenting on the new purchase.
