Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has restructured and expanded its management team with the appointment of Martin Fischer to head its ‘operations’ function, the company announced 20 Nov.
Effective 1 Oct, Fischer has taken the role of general manager operations & supply chain, which oversees production and purchasing within the Schwaig, Germany-headquartered machinery supplier.
Fischer, who joined the company in March, is a “certified production expert” and will be in charge of the modernisation and future alignment of production processes in the company. Heads of production at the Schwaig facility, Bernd Tröger, and Wiehe facility, Frank Stengel will report to him.
Additionally, as part of the management restructuring, Paolo Zirondoli, general manager sales, will oversee the company’s global sales activities. He will be the head of all sales teams of all subsidiaries and global representations.
CEO Gerd Liebig will be responsible for engineering and quality management with immediate effect, putting him in charge of the overall organisation of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag.
Furthermore, Dieter Schuster has been appointed head of quality management, reporting directly to Liebig. His main focus will be on the improvement of customer-oriented quality management and the optimised integration of quality in engineering and production.
Hideki Kuroiwa has been named ‘chief collaboration officer’, tasked with what the company has described as “special activities of outstanding corporate importance”. These include proceeding with the company’s future strategic alignment and advancing corporate ties with Sumitomo in Japan.
