Silvergate Plastics has installed a new twin screw, clamshell design extrusion line at its masterbatch manufacturing facility in Wrexham, North Wales.

The UK colour and additive masterbatch manufacturer announced that the advanced clamshell extrusion line would increase production capacity of the facility by 10%.

In a 7 June-statement, Silvergate said the investment was part of its growth strategy, responding to increasing market demands for faster processing timescales.

Silvergate is also planning to further its reach across Europe, actively looking for European agents and distributors in mainland Europe.

“Orders have been steadily increasing for some time and we have been actively searching for the right equipment to enhance our existing infrastructure,” explained Sandy Bergeson, managing director of Silvergate Plastics.

The ease of access to the inner workings of the extruder, she added, will bring operational advantages in medical and food contact applications.

“Obviously all our lines are comprehensively cleaned between orders now but the clamshell design will significantly reduce the time it takes to do so,” Bergeson noted.
