Baden, Austria-based Schur Flexibles Group has acquired two Dutch premium packaging manufacturers, Cats-Hänsel and Nimax BV, for an undisclosed amount.

The two companies were previously owned by Clondalkin Group, headquartered in Utrecht, the Netherlands, Schur said in a 13 Feb press release.

Cats-Hänsel, specialised in wax-coated paper and wax-coated laminates, has two production sites in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and Freital, Germany.

The company offers products to the European confectionary industry.

Nimax BV, is based in Elst, the Netherlands, and its core technologies include roto-gravure printing and flexographic printing.

The company offers custom-made packaging materials for specific end-uses in markets including tobacco, tea and chocolate confectionery.

“Through this, Schur Flexibles strengthens its position in the sector of premium packaging for the confectionary and tea market,” said Schur in a press release.

The three locations with about 135 employees generated a sales volume of over €30m in 2017.

Schur expects its turnover to exceed €400m in 2018, with the wax, paper and film packaging segment for confectionery set to achieve €80m in revenue.

“These companies fit perfectly into our growth strategy. In parallel, we are investing in our plant network to build up our highly specialised production locations further,” explained Michael Schernthaner, managing director of the Schur Flexibles Group.

The transaction is subject to internal and external approvals including the approval by the relevant competition authorities.
