R&P Plastics targeting Europe to drive expansion

Leading Russian compounder R&P Polyplastic expects to invest €1.5m on technological modernisation next year as it upgrades and expands its production capacity.

Company executives were in Germany last week making use of the Fakuma international plastics processing trade fair in Friedrichshafen to review the latest equipment and current technology trends.

R&P Polyplastic, the technical plastics compounding arm of Russia’s top pipe maker and processor Polyplastic Group, plans to expand its output by 50% over the next five years. It is targeting European markets to sell its material range in a concerted export drive.

In July, the compounder launched a newly installed extrusion line at its Engels plant in the Saratov region of south western Russia supplied by the Italian manufacturer ICMA. The unit is the facility’s thirteenth line and has a 2,000,tpa capacity.

At Fakuma, the firm reported that executives were in search of a strategic equipment supplier. Executives met with European firms including extrusion machinery manufacturers KraussMaffei Berstorff and Coperion and the feeding, weighing and discharging equipment supplier Brabender Technologie.

“We already have 22 extrusion lines in operation. However, this is not enough considering the geographical expansion of sales”, said R&P Polyplastic’s managing director Aleksandr Pavlov stressing that demand for polymer compounds is increasing.

The Polyplastic delegation at Fakuma also held meetings with companies supplying compounding raw materials and functional additives used in the firm’s production lines and which influence product quality.

Executives also used the fair platform to talk with potential European distribution partners in the Russian compounder’s quest to boost export sales in the region, reported Moscow-based R&P Polyplastic.

The company, which employs a workforce of more than 700, currently has a capacity of over 115,000tpa. From next year, it expects exports to Europe will increase to more than 1,000tpa.
