Japan-based Asahi Kasei opened its new R&D centre in Dormagen, North Rhine-Westphalia, on October 1st. An internal unit of Asahi Kasei Europe, the centre will strengthen the technical service network for the customers and serve as the main driver for developing new businesses, product grades and applications for the European market. To that end, the centre will cooperate closely not only with Asahi Kasei’s R&D headquarters in Japan, but will also conduct joint research and development with companies and universities in Europe.

The Asahi Kasei Group is working to intensify its presence on the European market. The Group opened its Engineering Plastics Technical Centre in February of this year, which will now also be integrated – as an internal unit -  with the new R&D centre.

Since the establishment of Asahi Kasei Europe as the Asahi Group’s European operational headquarters in April 2016, Asahi Kasei has continuously been intensifying its cross-divisional marketing and technical service activities to strengthen the relationship with the European automotive industry. Hideki Tsutsumi, managing director of Asahi Kasei Europe said the company was proceeding with the development of highly innovative automotive, environment- and energy-related technologies, and that the new centre was dedicated, among other things, to develop “sustainable products fit for the European market”.
