Swiss switching system maker Polycontact is aiming to launch cable production at its factory in Sibiu, in Romania’s central part, reports local news site Turnulsfatului.ro.
Under the plan, the manufacturer is to invest about €1m with the aim to acquire the necessary machinery to extrude cables. By 2019, Polycontact is planning to take on about 220 employees at its factory which is currently operated by a workforce of 80, and reach revenues of more than €10m per year, according to company representatives.
Polycontact launched its Romanian plant in 2014 after the company decided to relocate some of its manufacturing activities from its plant in Shenzen, China, to the European Union. The production facility in Sibiu is operated by the firm’s local subsidiary Polycontact Hermannstadt Srl.
Meanwhile, the Swiss producer has also been considering to relocate a further share of its manufacturing capacities from the Shenzen-based factory to a plant which is to be set up in Turkey.
Set up in 1959, Polycontact is based in Chur, Switzerland. The manufacturer’s production facilities are ISO 9001, 14001 and ISO/TS 16949 certified, according to data released by Polycontact. The company says it uses "the latest process-controlled injection moulding machines" for its plastics moulding activities.
Sibiu is located less than 260 km from the country’s capital Bucharest.
