The polymer materials industry is meeting top designers from global leaders in consumer tech and automotive brands at Design Chain @ K on 24 - 25 October. The conference is organised by Crain Communications, publisher of Plastics News Europe, and runs alongside K 2016 with the support of show organiser Messe Düsseldorf.
Renowned materials and product design expert Chris Lefteri is once again chairing Design Chain @ K, following on from the inaugural event's success at K 2013. Also returning this year is Hilke Schaer, senior designer at BMW, who memorably spoke in 2013 about BMW's thinking in sustainable materials as used in the group's i-series electric cars.
A session on consumer electronics will feature material designers from laptop leaders, Microsoft Surface and Lenovo. Daniel Liden, design manager, Lenovo will explore creative strategies for designing with plastics at every price point. Brian Min, senior colour and material designer, Microsoft Surface will discuss how he works with the plastics value chain in his work.
Speaking in the session on innovation is Katharine Pulford, head of colour, materials and design, at Logitech. She will be joined by Rebecca Heil, manager of Idea.Lab at Covestro, which is a sponsoring company at the conference. She will discuss new approaches to material research and how to push the boundaries by collaborating with designers in the innovation process.
Sabic is another sponsoring materials company: Bert Groothuis, director of sustainability in Europe, is speaking about new challenges and opportunities for polymers in automotive design. Colour and technology trends is the theme for Doreen Becker, global colour strategist at another sponsoring company, A Schulman.
