Linpac, the UK-headquartered packaging group, is responding to rising demand for its PET and rPET products across Europe by ramping up extrusion and thermoforming capacity at one of its Spanish plants.
The firm is investing more than €8m and installing a fourth extruder at its Pravia facility, in northern Spain, to increase capacity by 25%.
Linpac said the move was designed to meet rising demand from retailers and packers who were making the transition from expanded polystyrene to PP and PET packaging materials.
New thermoforming capacity will add a further 80 million trays to the existing production figure of 550 million, according to Ricardo Cabeza, Linpac Southern Europe's managing director.
“The new extruder will extend our capabilities and enable us to offer a wider variety of products to customers, ensuring they receive the best packaging for their application,” he said.
Linpac said the investment was part of a three-year plan with an estimated total of €14.3m going into Linpac Spain; €3.8m has been allocated for 2017 and a further €2.5m in 2018.
