Dutch chemicals company Royal DSM is expanding its high-performance plastics production in Europe in response to strong customer demand.

DSM Engineering Plastics announced 27 Nov that it was expanding production at its sites in Emmen and Geleen, the Netherlands, for high temperature polyamides (PAs) and thermoplastic copolyesters (TPC) with this expansion.

The plan comes on the back of “solid growth” in consumer electronics and automotive markets and the related increasing demand for high performance plastics including Stanyl (PA46), ForTii (PA4T), EcoPaXX (PA410) and Arnitel®(TPC).

According to the DSM press release, the company has already successfully completed expansion projects for Stanyl, ForTii and EcoPaXX product streams by 50% while a 25% production capacity expansion for Arnitel will come online in 2018.

The company did not give further details on size of the investment and production volumes.

DSM said the investment underlines its commitment to the industry and is aimed at improving its long-term position in the high-performance plastics market.
