Leading European plastic pipe and fittings producer Pipelife International has reinforced its market position in the electrical conduits market with its acquisition of Preflex Group.
Based in Ninove, Belgium, Preflex is a leader in manufacturing prewired electro conduits with plants located in Ledignan, France and Ninove. The firm, which employs 50, has three logistics hubs in the region serving more than 10 European national markets.
It makes prewired flexible conduits for electrical installations wired with low voltage cables as well as applications like data cables, signalling cables, control cables and cables for fire alarms.
Preflex is a regional leader in the fast expanding market for prewired conduits with the capacity to manufacture up to 100,000kms of prewired electro conduits annually. In 2016, the company generated sales worth €33m, according to Pipelife’s parent group Weinerberger AG.
”Within the segment of electrical installations, there is a clear trend – especially in markets with high labour costs – towards prewired conduits for quicker, easier and safer installation,” commented Heimo Scheuch, chief executive of Vienna-based Weinerberger.
Preflex has “a broad product portfolio, ranging from standard solutions to specific and customised products,” he pointed out. “This is a major step that allows us to strongly grow our existing electro business. It fully aligns with our strategic approach of profitable growth in areas where we see high potential for value creation,” said Scheuch.
Preflex is one of the leading European manufacturers in this segment with a strong brand and a broad product portfolio, ranging from standard solutions to specific and customised products, he added.
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, allows Pipelife to strengthen its prewired electro conduit business in Austria, Scandinavia, Finland and the Netherlands while expanding into France and Belgium.
Pipelife recorded annual turnover in 2016 of €853m and operates sites in 26 countries in Europe and the US.
