Portuguese plastics injection moulder and mould maker GLN S.A. has continued a period of rapid expansion at home and abroad with its recent inauguration of a new €2.1m plant in Mexico.
Since 2014, when the company was acquired by diverse Portuguese investment group Gestmin, GLN has also consolidated its mould producing business, last year taking over national rival, Famolde of Marinha Grande.
Now, in the company’s first foreign venture, Leiria, Portugal-based GLN has joined forces with young Mexican auto plastics parts processor Compartec to establish the injection moulding and mould servicing facility at El Marques, Querétaro state.
The GLN Mexico plant, creating initially 15 jobs with 20 more to be taken on soon, will injection mould technical parts and repair and maintain plastics moulds. Its operation includes two Arburg supplied injection machines. GLN believes this facility heralds the start
GLN Mexico took part in the 21st Mexico plastics industry fair Plast Imagen 2017 staged in Mexico City eartlier this month when the company exhibited its products and services.
Meanwhile, GLN is still growing in Portugal. Subsidiary GLN Plast has invested in a second production line for plastic coffee capsules at its moulding plant in Albergaria, northern Portugal.
The new Albergaria unit includes six injection moulding machines and is capable of producing up to 10m ‘DeltaQ’ coffee capsules weekly for Delta Cafés, part of the Portuguese group Grupo Nabeiro of Campo Maior. GLN has worked to innovate and find plastics solutions for the coffee producing group since 2010.
Apart from capsules, the processor moulds a wide range of technical plastic components for markets including automotive, electronics, packaging and electrical goods. GLN operates around 36 injection moulding machines.
The company has two subsidiaries focused on mould making and maintenance as well as company devoted to product development.
