Solvay Performance Polyamides, a manufacturer of polyamide-based performance materials, has started production of engineering plastics in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, to serve automotive and consumer goods markets in the region.
The Belgian speciality chemicals company announced 30 Oct that the new facility will produce the Technyl range of nylons and was built in partnership with Chunil Engineering, a Solvay automotive Tier 1 customer.
Production capacity at the plant, which is currently fully operational is 10 kilotonnes per annum, according to Marcos Curti, director of Americas for Solvay’s Performance Polyamides business unit.
“Mexico attracts a growing number of global players, particularly from Europe and Asia. Many of them are Solvay’s longstanding customers who need a trustworthy local manufacture of products they can fully trust,” Curti added.
