Dr. Christian Fischer has been named as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of pharmaceutical and medical packaging firm Gerresheimer Ag, effective 1 Sept.
He will success Uwe Röhrhoff, who left the German packaging company end of Augut.
Fischer joined the management board as a regular member on 1 Aug 2017, having previously been president performance chemicals at BASF SE in Ludwigshafen, Germany, where he spent 24 years.
“The supervisory board would like to thank Uwe Röhrhoff for the outstanding work he has done for Gerresheimer AG…. He has been instrumental in the success that Gerresheimer currently enjoys,” said Axel Herberg, chairman of the supervisory board of Gerresheimer AG.
Fischer joined BASF in 1993. Having started his career as a laboratory team leader, he went on to be deputy division manager, global marketing director, and sales director in different plastic divisions. He also served as group VP, fine chemicals Asia Pacific based in Hong Kong between 2004 and 2008.
As president performance chemicals from 2015 to March 2017, he held overall responsibility for plastic additives.
Christian Fischer holds a diploma degree in chemistry from university of Regensburg and a PhD in the same subject.
