Gerresheimer AG is launching a new integrated passive syringe safety system acquired through an exclusive licence from West Pharmaceutical Services.
The integrated safety syringe has been developed in response to increasing needlestick-related injuries among healthcare workers and will address this market need by offering “improved syringe processability and high-end user friendliness.”
Speaking to PNE, a company spokesman explained that the new system, which has not yet been branded or launched commercially, is a passive system which will need no extra activation of the security or lock system.
“It locks automatically and is integrated, which means it’ll be assembled on the syringe in the run of the RTF (ready-to-fill) production process,” he explained.
The German medical supplier said the new system will “complete” its range of prefillable syringe solutions for biotech and other drugs.
While West has two syringe safety systems, NovaGuard and eris, the new system is completely new solution developed jointly by the two companies.
According to the Gerresheimer spokesman, the new system is undergoing validation and will be commercialised later.
The overall development and production cost of the system will be within a low- two-digit million-euro range, the company official added.
