Wacker Chemie AG is has opened a new technical centre for construction and adhesives applications in Indonesian capital Jakarta.

According to the Munich-based speciality chemicals company, the facility serves as a development and testing laboratory for dispersible polymer powders and dispersions, which are used as binders for the regional building, paint, coatings and adhesives industries.

The focus of the technical centre will be on formulations containing Vinnapas dispersible polymer powders and dispersions.

The centre provides equipment for testing products under different climatic and environmental conditions and using different raw materials.

Additionally, an outdoor weathering station has been installed to analyse the weathering behaviour of polymer-modified exterior coatings.

The move is intended to expand local expertise in development, applications technology and service, to support customers in the region.

Additionally, the new unit will help open up Southeast Asia’s developing markets for quality construction polymers and chemical raw materials.

The German company said the reason for its increased commitment to the region is “ongoing growth, particularly in the building industry”.

“Southeast Asia, and Indonesia in particular, offer promising growth opportunities for Wacker. Demand for construction chemical specialties has risen noticeably over recent years, especially for our dispersible polymer powders and dispersions,” said Christian Hartel of Wacker’s executive board during the opening ceremony.

The company has been operating a technical centre in Singapore since 2007 to support customers with new product development in various applications including electronics, automotive and coatings.

Wacker also has a sales subsidiary in Jakarta.
