Bavarian packaging and building materials group Karl Bachl has expanded its Hungarian insulation capacity with the takeover of national producer Nikecell Kft.

The merger, due to be completed in May this year, will create a business that controls 40% of Hungary’s domestic insulation market.  Bachl expects to achieve annual sales worth almost €23m during 2013.

In October 2012,  R"hrnbach-based Bachl group expanded its insulation material business in Germany by acquiring the Styrofoam EPS division of Landsberg, Germany-based Schwenk Dämmtechnik Gmbh. The merger with Bachl took place in January this year.

The Schwenk operations include EPS plants in Allmendingen, Biedenkopf, Celle and Landsberg.  Their inclusion raised the Bachl group workforce by 300 to 1,800.

This acquisition gives Bachl’s insulation business a total of six EPS plants as it has two at R"hrnbach and Paitsdorf. The group is already a full-range insulation supplier with other plants at Tittling producing XPS; Freyung offering PUR/PE material and Porschendorf supplying Perlite.

Bachl group’s insulation division also runs a plant making EPS and XPS material in Brno and another at Tózeg in Hungary.
